Empowering Women Through Education, Awareness, Health, and Leadership Initiatives at JMJ Social Service Society, Vijayapura, Karnataka

In 2026 JMJ Social Service Society, Vijayapura — Bangalore Province implemented women-centred programmes emphasizing empowerment, education, health, leadership, and social justice for marginalized women and girls. Special attention targeted Devadasi women, adolescent girls, mothers, and vulnerable communities through integrated interventions that combined awareness, direct support, and skills building.

Inspired by Savitribai Phule’s life and mission, awareness sessions promoted the importance of girls’ education, gender equality, and social justice, urging parents to reject child marriage and invest in daughters’ schooling. House visits to Devadasi women offered emotional support, guidance on women’s rights and welfare schemes, and pathways to social inclusion, boosting dignity, confidence, and self-respect. Legal awareness workshops informed participants about laws on equality, safety, and protection from violence and discrimination, while discussions on democracy and land rights encouraged civic participation and agency in family and community decisions. Health-focused activities addressed HIV prevention, nutrition, hygiene, maternal health, and preventive care; periodic medical camps and consultations expanded access to basic healthcare and promoted healthy family practices.

Leadership and life-skills components—personality development sessions, communication training, and focused leadership programmes—strengthened women’s confidence and public engagement, equipping them to take active roles in community groups, local governance, and income-generation initiatives. International Women’s Day events celebrated achievements, reinforced solidarity, and highlighted ongoing challenges. Across interventions, the Society emphasized rights-based, culturally sensitive approaches and partnerships with health providers, legal aid services, and local leaders to ensure sustainability. Collectively, these programmes advanced women’s socio-economic empowerment, improved health outcomes, increased legal and civic awareness, and fostered resilient community support systems for marginalized women and girls in the region.
